One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is: “How long does it take to see results from Face Yoga?” The most honest answer is: it depends on your body type, age, and consistency — but there is a common timeline that most of my students experience. In this article, I will share a realistic timeline based on scientific research and my own teaching experience, so you know exactly what to expect and when.
In short: what will you see and when?
If you practice consistently for 5–20 minutes each day, most people will notice changes at the following milestones:
- After 1–2 weeks: a feeling of facial skin “awakening” — rosy, warmer, and less tense. This is due to increased blood circulation, not structural changes yet.
- After 4–8 weeks: facial contours begin to look more defined, facial muscles are firmer, and you (and your loved ones) will start to notice slight differences.
- After 12–20 weeks: noticeable and sustainable results — fuller cheeks, a visibly lifted and “younger” face.

What does science say about the timeline?
The most cited study is from Northwestern University, published in JAMA Dermatology (2018). A group of women aged 40–65 practiced facial exercises for 30 minutes a day over 20 weeks (gradually reducing to every other day). The result: dermatologists assessed that they looked about 3 years younger on average, mainly due to fuller cheeks.
The key takeaway from this study is not that “20 weeks is required for results,” but rather that: results are proportional to persistence. Facial muscles, like body muscles, become firmer and better support the skin the more consistently and longer you practice.
Detailed timeline by stages
Weeks 1–2: The “awakening” phase
You learn the correct movements and establish a routine. The most noticeable change is a rosy, more relaxed complexion after each session. Don’t be impatient looking in the mirror for a V-line — this phase is to build the foundation.
Weeks 3–8: Facial muscles start to firm
This is when your facial muscles really start to “take shape.” The jawline, cheekbones, and areas around the eyes become firmer. Many students report that friends begin to compliment them on looking “brighter” without knowing why.
Weeks 8–20: Noticeable changes
If you maintain consistency, this is when you reap the “sweet fruit”: defined contours, fuller cheeks, and a naturally lifted face. It’s advisable to take photos at the starting point, week 4, week 8, and week 12 for comparison, as changes occur gradually and can be easily overlooked when viewed daily.

5 factors that determine how quickly you see results
- Consistency: the number one factor. Practicing for 5 minutes every day is much more effective than 30 minutes once a week.
- Age & skin condition: those in their 20s and 30s see results faster; those over 40 need more persistence, but changes are more noticeable due to a higher “starting point.”
- Correct technique: practicing incorrectly not only reduces effectiveness but can also create new wrinkles. Learning the right way from the start is more important than practicing a lot.
- Nutrition & hydration: muscles and skin need “ingredients.” Adequate protein, natural collagen, vitamin C, and water will support faster results.
- Lifestyle: getting enough sleep, reducing stress, and sun protection — these factors account for 50% of skin health, while Face Yoga takes care of the muscles.
How to see results faster?
- Incorporate your practice into an existing routine (like washing your face or applying cream) so you don’t forget.
- Use a little oil/cream to allow your hands to glide smoothly, avoiding pulling on the skin.
- Focus on the quality of the movements, feeling the muscles contract — don’t just go through the motions.
- Combine skin-rejuvenating nutrition from within (collagen, vitamin C, adequate hydration).
- Take regular photos for motivation — visual evidence is the best medicine for persistence.
Frequently asked questions
Will I see any changes after one week?
You will feel your skin looking rosier and more relaxed, but structural changes (like a slimmer face or lifted muscles) will take a few weeks to a few months. Don’t give up in the first week.
If I stop practicing, will I “lose” the results?
Similar to gym workouts, facial muscles need to be maintained. If you stop completely for several months, the effects will gradually diminish. However, just 5 minutes a day is enough to maintain your form.
Will practicing more lead to faster results?
Don’t overdo it. Facial muscles also need rest to recover. 5–15 minutes each day, consistently, is the “sweet spot” — overexertion can easily lead to muscle strain and wrinkles.
