Full cheeks are one of the most youthful features of the face. When cheeks become hollow, the face instantly looks gaunt, tired, and older than its age — even if you haven’t developed any wrinkles. The common causes are loss of fat and collagen in the cheek area, combined with weakened cheek muscles. The good news is that Face Yoga can help plump and naturally lift the cheeks by firming the cheek muscle group, just a few minutes each day.
Why do cheeks become hollow?
- Loss of natural volume: with age, the fat pads that support the cheeks gradually decrease and sag.
- Collagen reduction: skin loses elasticity and no longer feels as “full” as before.
- Weak cheek muscles: the zygomaticus muscle group and the orbicularis oris muscle become less toned, causing the cheeks to sag.
- Rapid weight loss: overall fat loss leads to hollow cheeks.

How does Face Yoga help hollow cheeks?
By intentionally exercising the cheek muscles, these muscles become firmer and “fuller”, supporting the skin above and creating the sensation of plump cheeks and high cheekbones. Combining this with massage helps increase circulation, delivering nutrients to nourish the cheek area. This is a natural way to improve without fillers.
5 exercises to plump & lift cheeks
Wash your hands thoroughly, apply a little cream/oil to allow your hands to glide smoothly.
1. Puffing cheeks with air
Breathe in, puff air into both cheeks, hold for 5–10 seconds (feel the cheeks stretch), then slowly release. Repeat 8–10 times. This simple exercise helps “fill” and tone the cheek muscles.
2. O-shaped smile to lift cheeks
Open your mouth into an O shape, covering your teeth with your lips. Smile while maintaining the O shape (feel the cheek muscles lift), hold for 5 seconds, repeat 10 times. This distinctly lifts the cheek muscles.

3. Lifting cheekbones with fingers
Place your index and middle fingers on the top of your cheekbones. Smile and push the cheek muscles up against the gentle resistance of your fingers. Hold for 5 seconds, repeat 10–15 times on each side. This increases the fullness and lift of the cheeks.
4. Pushing air up to the cheekbones
Hold air in your mouth and push it up to the area under your eyes – the cheekbones, holding for 5 seconds on each side, alternating. This helps fill the upper cheek area.
5. Massage to stimulate cheek circulation
Using your fingertip, gently massage in circular motions on the cheeks upwards (from the corners of the mouth to the temples) for 30 seconds. This increases circulation, bringing nutrients to nourish the muscles and skin of the cheeks.

Combining for fuller cheeks
- Proper nutrition & protein: eat a balanced diet, avoid rapid weight loss that causes hollow cheeks.
- Boost collagen: vitamin C, collagen-rich foods, and staying hydrated.
- Sun protection: protect the collagen in the cheek area from UV rays.
- Consistency: muscle lifting is a process — maintain 5–15 minutes a day.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long until cheeks look fuller?
You may feel your cheeks firming up after a few weeks; noticeable changes in fullness and lift require consistent practice for 8–12 weeks.
Do thin people see results?
Yes — Face Yoga tones the muscles, making cheeks look fuller and lifted. However, if you are very thin, it’s advisable to ensure adequate nutrition to have a healthy “foundation” of fat and muscle.
Can Face Yoga replace cheek fillers?
Not as immediately as fillers, but it is natural, safe, incurs no repeat costs, and provides gradual, sustainable improvement.
